Prerequisites

Installation Prerequisites

Make sure that you have the following information and have performed the following tasks before installing ObserveIT:

  • Use Windows Update to ensure all servers are patched with critical updates.

  • Ensure your servers meet all System Requirements for the components you are installing.

  • Login credentials for an account with administrator privileges on the computer that you intend to install ObserveIT on.

  • The IP address and host name of the computer that hosts the ObserveIT Application Server. If you plan to install the Application Server on the current computer, then make note of this computer's name and IP address. You will need them for any ObserveIT Agent you plan to install.

  • If there's a firewall between the ObserveIT Agents and the ObserveIT Application Server, you must allow traffic for the TCP ports that the ObserveIT Application Server communicates on through that firewall. For new ObserveIT installations, the default is 4884, but this port can be changed to meet the organization's requirements. Note that you can also configure ObserveIT to use SSL, which will change the port to 443.

  • The IP address and host name of the computer that hosts the ObserveIT Database Server.

  • For enterprise-scale deployments, if you do not intend to use the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express edition, please obtain database login credentials and other information from your database administrator. The username you're going to use must have 'dbcreator' privileges at the minimum. This is only required for the Web Management and Application components. ObserveIT Agent installations do not require that you use this information.

  • You need a license file containing your purchased ObserveIT license.
