System Requirements
The following is list of the minimum system requirements for each ObserveIT component. Each of the three server applications can be installed on a single platform or multiple platforms, depending on the organization's needs and performance considerations. Actual recommended resources will depend on the number of Agents deployed, the amount of activity on each Agent, and the amount of historical data retained in the database.
Agent
The ObserveIT Agent is installed on all Windows systems which require monitoring. The Agent can be installed silently via software distribution applications like Microsoft System Management Server or interactively via the console.
Minimum system requirements:
Microsoft Windows Server 2000/2003/2003 R2/2008, Windows 2000 Pro, Windows XP Pro, Windows Vista (we recommend to always use the latest Service Pack for your operating system).
.NET Framework (version 1.1 is the minimum required).
1 GHz or faster Intel or AMD processor.
512 MB RAM or more.
At least 10 MB of free hard disk space.
10/100 Ethernet adapter (Gigabit recommended).
Database Server
The ObserveIT Database server does not have any ObserveIT application software installed on it. Running the setup program creates the two ObserveIT database structures, including the connection method and credentials that the ObserveIT Application and ObserveIT Web Management Console servers will use. The Management Database is used to store configuration data about the monitored systems, agents, and users. The Activity Database stores user activity data including screenshots and text metadata. This database is designed to be distributed over multiple SQL server platforms to maintain performance.
Minimum system requirements:
Microsoft Windows Server 2000/2003/2003 R2/2008 (we recommend to always use the latest Service Pack for your operating system).
SQL Server 2000/2005, SQL 2005 Server Express Edition with the latest Service Pack.
.NET Framework (version 1.1 is the minimum required, however you will require version 2 or higher for most SQL Server versions).
1 GHz or faster Intel or AMD processor.
512 MB RAM or more (2 GB recommended).
10 MB disk space per hour of Agent activity stored.
10/100 Ethernet adapter (Gigabit recommended).
Note: If you plan to install the ObserveIT Database server on the same computer as the other server components, additional storage and processor capacity might be required.
Application Server
The ObserveIT Application Server is implemented as an ASP.NET web application that runs on Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS). It can coexist with other IIS web services. For most implementations, the Application Server and Web Management Server will run on the same hardware platform.
Minimum system requirements:
Microsoft Windows Server 2000/2003/2003 R2/2008 (we recommend to always use the latest Service Pack for your operating system).
Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) with ASP .NET, version depending on the version of Windows Server that you're using.
.NET Framework (version 1.1 is the minimum required).
1 GHz or faster Intel or AMD processor.
512 MB RAM or more (2 GB recommended).
At least 10 MB of free hard disk space.
10/100 Ethernet adapter (Gigabit recommended).
