What’s New in ObserveIT v5.1

Our latest software release – ObserveIT Xpress v5.1 and ObserveIT Enterprise v5.1 – brings features that further empower you to deploy and maximize the use of ObserveIT people auditing software.

Active Directory - Manage ObserveIT users in AD

v5.1 fully integrates with Active Directory to provide seamless group usage.

Active Directory - Manage ObserveIT users in AD
  • Grant permissions to entire Active Directory groups to authorize access to ObserveIT Web Management Console.

  • For ObserveIT User Authentication feature (where generic ‘administrator’ login forces a second user identification: Specify AD groups that are authorized for secondary login.

Agent API – Your software can trigger when to record
Active Directory - Manage ObserveIT users in AD

Our latest release gives you the power to control when to record. Via a WMI-based API, trigger start and stop recording commands, and control the Agent configuration rules.

This API gives software vendors the ability to integrate session recording functionality into a full software solution platform.

Saving a recorded session – Export and deliver standalone
session recordings

Want to provide session replay evidence, without adding a new user to ObserveIT Web Console? ObserveIT enables you to export a recorded session, allowing you to use the recording in a standalone manner. v5.1 brings significant new capabilities for saving a recorded session:

Active Directory - Manage ObserveIT users in AD
  • Easily specify which slides (sections or chapters of a recording) should be included in the saved recording.

  • Choose between output formats:

    1. Static HTML, containing all the saved slides, making it easy to print all or part of the saved session.

    2. Compressed zip file, containing an viewer executable and all the saved slides data from the session.

  • The entire saving process has been streamlined in v5.1, making it more convenient to use.

RDP-only – Record only when users login from home
Active Directory - Manage ObserveIT users in AD

In some cases, you might be interested in only recording remote sessions, while ignoring local console sessions. The most common need for this is if you want to capture employee sessions when they log in from home, but not when they are at their desks.

The latest version now includes the ability to record only sessions that are established from an RDP connection. This feature removes ‘noise’ (local console sessions that are of no interest) from the session recording diary, and also conserves database and storage space.

SMTP Server port modification
Active Directory - Manage ObserveIT users in AD

For emails generated by ObserveIT, the SMTP settings options now include the ability to modify the port used. You can continue using the default TCP port 25, or modify it based on your outgoing server requirements (ex: TCP port 587 for GMail , etc.)

Metadata-only recording – Just the facts, ma’am
Active Directory - Manage ObserveIT users in AD

As with application inclusion/exclusion rules, users can also be excluded from being visually recorded. In v5.1, you can now also configure the Server Policy to exclude users from being visually recorded, but still provide textual metadata recording of their actions. This configuration option is useful when there is need to have an understanding of what the excluded users are doing while logged-on, however, no visual data is needed for these users.

Streamlined Agent installation for faster deployment
Active Directory - Manage ObserveIT users in AD

In the latest version, the Agent installation procedure decreases complexity in installing on multiple servers. You are now required to only enter the ObserveIT Application Server name or IP address and port (instead of manually typing in the entire Server URL string).

Additional performance improvements

v5.1 includes a number of performance enhancements, including upgraded image quality in recordings.
